Cell Theory

The cell theory is one of the most important theories in all of science. Before the cell theory, many people were of the opinion that living material could arise from non-living things. Like the idea that rotting meat produced (not attracted) flies.

The Cell Theory Has 3 Main Parts

  1. All living things are made up of one or more cells
  2. The cell is the functional unit of life
  3. All cells arise from preexisting cells

The Cell theory made researchers realize that all living things have a similar basic structure. This theory also made them want to figure out what it was about the cell and the structures within the cell that made it the building blocks of life.
